I’m Kait! An Australian artist based in Brisbane, creating contemporary pencil drawings that celebrate the beauty, character and detail of familiar subjects.

Growing up in North Queensland, I was surrounded by beaches, palms and native wildlife. They were part of everyday life, but never felt ordinary to me. The landscape was freedom, escape, home and happiness, while the wildlife was fascinating, full of character and a constant source of joy. That fascination with the world around me has only grown through travel, with new places and experiences becoming a big part of what inspires me.

I’m a detail person. I can happily spend hours drawing the texture of a palm frond, the softness of a koala’s fur or every tiny ripple across the surface of the water. I love watching all those individual marks slowly build into something much bigger.

That relationship between the bigger picture and the smallest details is a huge part of my work. From across the room, I want an artwork to have presence and shape the feeling of a space. But step closer and there’s so much more to discover: tiny textures, patterns and individual marks you might never have noticed at first glance.

It’s also why I love working the way I do. I draw every line by hand, combining traditional pencil techniques with a digital drawing tablet. It gives me the freedom to work at scale while still getting lost in all those tiny details that make up the finished piece.

More than anything, I want to create pieces that are beautiful to live with. Art that gives you something immediately, but keeps giving the longer you live with it.
