A tender tribute to kinship, calm, and the softer side of the bush. Koala Logged invites you into a world of eucalyptus leaves, slow glances, and delicate stillness — captured in exquisite hand-drawn detail. Every glance, every leaf, every tuft of fur has been rendered with care. Step closer, and you’ll see the story unfold in the smallest marks.
Meet the Muses
The Wanderer
There’s a beautiful energy in him. The stretch of his limbs, the way his little hands grip the branch mid-step, that white-patched rump fading into a soft grey-brown chest. You can almost feel him in motion, climbing toward the others. He draws you in, like you could watch him all day, curious to see where he goes and what he's up to.
The Anchor
He’s magnetic. The turn of his head, the glance over his shoulder as if he’s just heard something behind him, and happily finds his friend coming over. His fur is all texture and depth, hypnotic in its detail. He sits at the centre of it all, steady and content, creating a space that feels safe, sweet, and deeply connected.
The Climber
Every limb is doing something. One arm stretched high, the others wrapped close, his left leg gripping that little branch like it’s second nature. His fluffy white chest catches the light as he glances down toward his friends, still part of the group even while mid-adventure. And those ears, all fluff and character, add a touch of mischief to this curious climber.
The Kid Brother
The littlest of the bunch, all wide eyes and scruffy fur. There’s an eagerness in him — so happy just to be here, part of it all. His fluffy ears look almost too big for him, like something he’ll grow into. Sweet, curious, and quietly thrilled to be included, he’s the perfect final piece in this little gathering.
Take an even closer look!
To make something look realistic, you have to make it look flawed. Every knot, dent, and rough patch in this timber is intentional, a quiet rebellion against perfection. I’m ridiculously proud of this one: it’s weathered, grounded, and beautifully alive.
Drawn in a flat, botanical silhouette style, the layered leaves were designed to support, not compete. Their soft sage tones frame the koalas without stealing focus, adding a sense of rhythm, calm, and quiet beauty to the scene.
I can’t tell you how much joy this fur brings me. It’s painstaking, yes. Delicate, time-consuming, absurdly detailed, yes. But the result? Worth it every time.
Fun fact: A koala’s back fur is as unique as a human fingerprint. They’re one of a kind!
The Making Of
Gathering Reference
I took so many photos at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. I could’ve stayed there for hours, just watching them nap, climb, and munch leaves. Highly recommend a visit if you need a little joy boost… it’s pure soul medicine.
Building the Scene
I wanted to capture koalas together, showing just how affectionate, expressive, and social they can be. I tested many combinations of reference photos, swapping koalas in and out until the scene felt natural, not staged. Once the four came together, I built the eucalyptus layout around them to balance the composition and make the moment feel alive.
Bringing It to Life
This drawing took over a month to complete. Every strand of fur and every leaf was drawn by hand on my digital pencil tablet. It’s slow, meditative work… but there’s nothing more satisfying than watching these little personalities take shape right before my eyes.
The Original Edition
Koala Logged exists as a single, one-of-a-kind original, large-scale statement piece measuring 40x55" (102x140cm). Drawn entirely by hand, this piece captures the softness, strength, and quiet intimacy of four koalas in exquisite detail.
The drawing is printed on Hahnemühle German Etching 310gsm, a museum-grade fine art paper known for its beautifully textured surface, deep tonal range, and exceptional archival quality. To preserve and protect the surface, it is sealed with Sandtex Matte Laminate, offering UV protection, a subtle texture, and a completely glare-free finish. Mounted to a 3mm aluminum panel, the piece is strong, perfectly flat, and built to last. It is framed in a refined raw Walnut Veneer timber (2cm x 4cm), offering warmth and a contemporary finish that complements the work without distraction.
The original is currently on exhibition at Aspire Gallery in Brisbane (July 12 – August 16, 2025) and is available for purchase via Aspire Gallery’s Catalogue or in person.
