The magic of a dog silhouette and beauty from dust.

Nestled within Banff National Park’s breathtaking scenery lies Peyto Lake, a vibrant blue glacier-fed lake halfway between Lake Louise and Mistaya Canyon. After a short walk through a Narnian-like snow-covered forest, you will emerge on the world-famous lookout, with vistas of the iconic blue lake and surrounding mountains.

The magic of Peyto Lake is two-fold and is found within its wolf-shaped outline and vibrant blue waters. The first is the impossibility of visiting Peyto Lake without feeling awed. There’s something so comforting and joyous found in the natural phenomenon shaped like our furry friend that sparks immeasurable joy and a curiosity to create stories and seek wonder around us. The second, generally unknown, is Peyto Lake’s vivid, striking blue hue, which results from 'rock flour’ aka dirt falling into the water during summer. This is a powerful reminder that life’s challenges often lead to the most magical, beautiful, and inspiring parts of our lives.

I created this drawing of Peyto Lake after a pivotal period in my life during which I felt perfect synchronicity with Peyto Lake and my story. My arduous three-year journey to restore my wrist brought unimaginable joy and immense beauty into my life, and I started to notice the magic around me and look for and cultivate it.

My hope is that when you look at this drawing of Peyto Lake, you’ll be inspired to seek out and cultivate a sense of wonder in your daily life, be awed by the natural anomaly of this dog-shaped lake, and encouraged that good things come from the dirt in our lives.
