Mistaya Canyon is one of the most breathtaking limestone gorges in the Rockies. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, book it for your next road trip because it’s the best-kept secret around! You can find Mistaya Canyon along the Icefields Parkway between Peyto Lake and Jasper. After a short walk downhill, you’ll come upon a bridge spanning the narrow canyon with an incredible vantage point of the Mistaya River rushing through the gorge below and Mt. Sarbach rising in the distance.

I created this drawing during my first year of rehabilitating my wrist, slowly working on it over the course of a year, determined to regain my ability to draw and capture this stunning landmark that sparked a profound shift in me: to stop being a passive recipient of the external forces derailing my life and take back my power and rewrite my story — one pencil stroke at a time.

Mistaya Canyon is an awe-inspiring example of the immense power we hold within ourselves to shape our lives, much like the turquoise waters that carve through the canyon. My hope is that when you look at this beautiful drawing on your wall, it’ll be a daily reminder that life comes from you, not at you. You have the ability to embrace agency and influence over your life and create a beautiful and abundant life — today.
